Dr. Khandelwal graduated from the Lady Hardinge Medical College in 1986. She works in Camden, NJ and 5 other locations and specializes in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine. Dr. Khandelwal is affiliated with University Medical Center Of Princeton At Plainsboro, Cooper University Hospital and Atlanticare Regional Medical Center.

What inspired you to become a doctor?

There were very few female physicians where and when I grew up. Everywhere I went, women’s health was always secondary to the rest of the family’s. I wanted women and their needs to be just as important as the men and children.

My uncle, a general physician, was revered in his community; I loved to make house calls with him and witnessed the respect and pride of his students and colleagues when he became professor of medicine at his University. I saw long queue of men and women form every weekend outside his home, where he provided free care to the underserved. I similarly wanted to take care of women from all walks of life: regardless of racial, ethnic, or economic background and help the most challenging or deferred patients.

I have always wanted to be a doctor, and have never regretted this decision nor looked back. After 25 years in practice, I have published over 30 peer-reviewed and cutting-edge studies, mentored dozens of bright physicians, and served on the board of the International Society of Obstetrics Medicine. Still, my most rewarding achievement has been caring for thousands of pregnant women with medical or obstetrical complications to be healthy and have healthy babies.

What is your essential patient care philosophy?

Patients first! Patients are not always aware of the best scientific plan for them, but their opinions, philosophy, and needs matter in the management plan (patient-based care).

What do you hope your patients say about you to their family and friends?

Dr. Khandelwal is a good doctor and really cares about me. I trust her and feel comfortable with her plan.

What three words best describe you?

Perfectionist, caring, dedicated.

Outside of your work, what are your passions?

I love to travel and see God’s beautiful world and creations. I enjoy watching movies along with yoga and pilates. I love spending time with my family and three children.
